Gyros Recipe

Here's the recipe for gyros:

Ingredients:

500 grams of chicken breast or beef, thinly sliced

4-6 pita breads

For the marinade:

3 tablespoons of olive oil

3 cloves of garlic, grated

Juice of 1 lemon

1 tablespoon of vinegar

1 tablespoon of yogurt

1 tablespoon of oregano

1 teaspoon of cumin

Salt and pepper

For the Tzatziki sauce:

1 cup of Greek yogurt

1 cucumber, grated and squeezed to remove excess moisture

2 cloves of garlic, grated

1 tablespoon of olive oil

Juice of half a lemon

Salt and pepper

Fresh mint or dill (optional)

For serving:

Tomato slices

Onion slices

Lettuce leaves

Instructions:

Thinly slice the chicken breast or beef.

In a mixing bowl, combine olive oil, garlic, lemon juice, vinegar, yogurt, oregano, cumin, salt, and pepper to prepare the marinade. Add the sliced meat to the marinade and ensure that all pieces are coated. Refrigerate the mixture for at least 1 hour, preferably overnight.

For the Tzatziki sauce, mix Greek yogurt, grated cucumber, garlic, olive oil, lemon juice, salt, and pepper in a bowl. Add fresh mint or dill if desired.

Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the marinated meat for about 5-7 minutes per side or until cooked through and slightly charred.

Warm the pita bread in the oven or on a stovetop.

To assemble the gyros, place a few slices of cooked meat on a pita bread. Top with Tzatziki sauce, tomato slices, onion slices, and lettuce leaves.

Roll the pita bread tightly and secure with aluminum foil or parchment paper.

Serve the gyros warm and enjoy!

Note: Gyros can also be served with additional toppings such as sliced olives, feta cheese, or hot sauce, according to personal preference.
